Michael Cruz, Head of Content at Summer Friday, talks about what brands and consumers need to know about Web 3.0 and the metaverse.

Guest Biography

From strategy to execution, Michael is committed to delivering successful content for brands across all industries. He began his career in college as a director-editor, freelancing for the World Series of Poker and AOL Time Warner. After graduating, he became an editor at Grey; there, he met producer Rob Simone, and together they began a long and successful entrepreneurial journey.

Realizing that traditional marketing conventions were crumbling and content was just finding its footing, Michael and Rob broke from the traditional agency world in 2006. They founded the content agency Hiccup, which established a complete script-to-screen publishing model. This innovative approach attracted the attention of brands like Procter & Gamble, E*TRADE, Eli Lilly, and others.

After scaling and diversifying the business, Hiccup merged with full-service marketing agency DRUM in 2015. Michael became Chief Content Officer and Creative Director. His experience in both directing and editing led to full campaign and creative development for massive brands like E*TRADE, Sony, P&G, Thomson Reuters, Pfizer, and The Wall Street Journal, just to name a few.

In 2020, Michael and Rob co-founded Summer Friday, a strategy, creative, and content boutique that thrives at the intersection of big ideas and nimble execution. As Head of Content, Michael’s ability to cross verticals and deliver effective, relevant, and engaging content is truly unique and makes him essential in providing insight throughout the planning process, from strategy to execution.

When he’s not immersed in marketing, he’s either in the air piloting a Cessna, riding his 1972 vintage Triumph Bonneville, learning a new language, or off meditating. His creative has won multiple awards, but more importantly, it has and continues to satisfy client objectives.
